St. Francis’ is partly funded by the Zambian Government, but to maintain its high standards it relies on donations - usually from the U.K. and the Netherlands where support groups are active. Funds are used for to purchase drugs and medical equipment, and maintaining the Hospital’s many buildings. Some funds are now used to supplement the low salaries paid by the Zambian Government to some of the long term Zambian staff, to prevent them from being lured away to more highly paid jobs in the capital or abroad.
